help please,,, also i will have to losing up sum of the other main caps,, so just lockcite the bolts and go?,, or do i need to seal the caps to?

 

I didn't put any additional sealer into the main cap. Of course, I didn't remove what was already there either..... I don't have any leaks. (at least, not there.......)

You will have to loosen up the next one or two main caps to make getting the upper part of the RMS out. No need to seal those caps at all.

 

in the illustration, the place indicated for the loctite 515 is the machined flange surface. 515 seals without adding any bulk. its as thin as water.

the place indicated for the rtv slot is just that, put a dab in the slot, not on the machined surface. it seals the lip of the cap at the corner of the block. see the 2nd picture.

you will need to loosen all the main caps several rounds to allow the crank to drop a smidgen. completely remove the rear most cap and take it the workbench and clean it with brake cleaner.

to remove the upper half of the rear main seal, use a small screwdriver or wooden stick and push on one side, which will force it to rotate around the crank. grab the other end with pliers and pull it out. DO NOT force it. the crank has to be loose enough for the old one to come out AND THE NEW ONE to go in without damage. so loosen all the caps to obtain that clearance.

when installing the new seal, note the difference in the inside and outside. don't put it in backwards.

 

ya i got the main cap off,, i think i understand it more now,, will have to go look at it

what silicone adhesive sealant sould i use?

 

any automotive rtv/silicon.

 

515 is an anaerobic flange sealer. permatex makes an equivalent that might be more commonly found in the local parts store.

also my new oil pump came with a card board gasket,,, do i use that?
