I hate to point out the obvious and I mean no insult by it... Are you turning the bit in the proper direction? If you've got a counterclockwise bit and you turn it clockwise (or vice-versa) you're going to get nowhere fast.

+1 on that. I've got several ez-out sets, and most come with left hand bits.
at least the ones I like do. Drill must be in reverse for these.

What if someone put a stainless steel bolt in there, Use a magnet to test it, If s/steel the magnet won't work, if just steel it will hold. If it's s/Steel you have a battle on your hands and will need a few top of the line drill bits to get a hole in it. If it's s/steel go very slow with the drill and just enough pressure to make the drill cuts curl off the bit.

Note: forgot to add use a good cutting oil when drilling S/S

just use a magnet to catch any steel shavings .the aluminum wont hurt anything.the bendy 1lb strength magnets will work fine .well a fresh cobalt bit should have made short work of the bolt .try a new fresh drill bit or put a nut over the broken bolt break out the mig and weld it ive used that trick many a time on fords with broken exhaust studs. the weld wont stick to the aluminum. if that dont work ur bummin.+1 on using cutting oil especially with those cobalts they dont like heat

I would cram a rag into the hole and put a magnet on the rag to catch the metal shavings.

Kobalt might be your problem with the drill bit if it isn't spinning the wrong way, their quality is pretty bad these days.

What I wouldn't give for a welder right now.

Had this same thing happen to me. Feels like I'm reliving it. I ended up braking the thermostat housing. Used a ex out and it broke there. So I got the Hughes intake. When I was taking off the old intake manifold broke another bolt. So just take your time spray those suckers with pb blast if u take off the intake manifold to work on it better

Makes me wonder about the quality of that drill bit...... I used a generic bit, freshly sharpened, and burned thru bolts in mere moments. That cobalt bit should eat thru it like a hot knife thru warm butter.......

Not to be mean here...... but, you ARE spinning the bit the correct direction aren't you? Some of those bits are left hand...... so, if they get a good enough bite, they can thread the broken bolt right out. (and then you play hell trying to get what's left of the bolt off the bit......)

I did check the rotation of the bit and I was going in the right direction, so I saved myself some cool points there. Went to the hardware store this morning and got a couple different brand bits. So hopefully one of them will work. I am about to get bundled up to go out and try it out. Hopefully it works.
