If it's a crossover toolbox (the kind that sits on the bed rails) you can use either j-bolts or just drill through the box into the bed rail and bolt it down. I secured mine with j-bolts that I covered with some stout vinyl hose.

Some tool boxes will have a hook or two to help them hang on, but metal on metal has a rather high static friction, especially if you load your tool box up. and unless your trying to off road with a tool box...
Well when i put the box on my new one, it really did slide right off. It woldnt be safe to drive it if not attacted.
Like it said i would just bold it down if the other side could open..
