Ok thanks for making it sound not so bad! I love the help on this forum.

Bought this truck from my dad-original owner, when it had 192,000.
Now it has 215,000

I need to ask if the chain was EVER replaced

Make sure you have a tool to hold the water pump pulley while you loosen the nut for the fan, it can be a B!TCH to get off, and before you know it, you've spent an hour cussing it....

I got lucky... I broke it loose with the serp belt still in place, put a long pipe wrench on the big nut, and smacked the end with a hammer. Came right loose.

It is a tool loaner program. They should just charge you until you return it. I NEVER pay them for the tool......but I am in there all the time.

O'reily's has the same loaner program. The $30 is just a deposit.

For less than $30, you could own that tool...

Yea they will give you back all your money when you return the tool. I didnt remOvs alt or lossen the ac bracket to replace mine but i didnt replace my upper hosr either, eas only 3 yrs old. I wouldnt even bother putting the fan back on. You should pit a edan on there instead. If your On a budget you can do what i did and order a cherokee fan from wermopar and put it in the factory shroud. My whole setup cost me leas than $100.

edit: here is the link to my thread on my water pump replacement and efan install

I would consider installing a double roller timing set with the optional tensioner if I was pulling water pump off. Good bang for the buck in performance in my opinion.

Got the water pump off. Now to get at the timing chain replacement
What should I mark as to not move any gears in there.?

Any good article how-to for this?
Drain the oil for starters I assume.

Question about double roller? Just get the double roller chain right, not the gears also.

You need the double roller chain and gears or you've only got half the puzzle....

When you replace the gears and chain, take them off, put new set on and DON'T move anything with the gears/chain off.

Dots should line up.

Edit: Where are you getting the timing set from? I got mine from rockauto.com for around $43 I think, it's been awhile.
