Can someone please post a pic of the 6 bolts that need to come off (once water pump is off) to get to the timing chain?

I have the large crank nut removed. now I want to remove as LITTLE as possible to remove the timing cover, and put the new sprockets and double roller on, and get out of there and get this truck running again
Thanks!!

Not the best photo to show you what bolts, but to each side of the timing cover ther are three bolts up each side. Also two bolts form the pan.

I did not use tool. Apply some grease on end of crand where seal will ride. When you slip the cover (with seal installed in it) over the crank, wiggle the cover from left to right. You want the seal centered on shaft and not pushed on way or the other. When it is good, and the lip is not turned out, push it straing in. Start all bolts first, then tighten systematically. I did pan bolts first pretty snug, then started from the bottom on the side bolts. Then I torqued them all (an mine doesn't leak). Don't over tighten. See manual for torque spec (I cannot remember what it is).

Did you use this tool on the timing sprocket and chain upgrade?
i installed the new seal into the timing cover while i had it off and laying on the workbench. i used a short block of 2x4 and a hammer and just tapped the seal into its cavity.

i use black rtv on everything. i don't like blue or orange colors shining.

edit....the special tool is a dummy harmonic balancer that centers the timing cover in relationship to the crank and balancer. not a bad idea.... you might could slip the balancer on the crank before torquing down the timing cover.

Ok Thanks

The timing cover looks to be behind the back of the the water pump housing then (if I'm understanding this photo compared to what I see yet on my truck)

I have the crank bolt off and the crank pulley is tight yet on shaft.
I will pick up a 3 hole puller to get the pulley off. DO I need to put the large bolt back on on order to use the 3 hole puller?

Did you take the 6 or so bolts out off the pulley? Once I took those bolts off the pulley just pulled right off. If you can't just yank the pulley off you can use the puller but not around the out side of the pulley it will bend and will be FUBAR. Put the Crank bolt back in and let the puller bolt push against it.

i'm at work now so I can't see the truck, but I do not remember seeing any 6 bolts ON the pulley, just the large 1 1/4" inch one.
The 6 bolts I need to remove (location wise) are a mystery to me.
Are they the ones holing the BACK pice of the water pump ON the engine block?

Sorry for being such a dufuss on this, but have never replaced a timing chain-so I want to ask before I just go in there removing any bolt I see

This is what mine looks like. I have the 318 5.2 engine so it maybe different on a 5.9 360.

I think it depends on the year. My '01 has holes for use of say, a steering wheel puller, but the holes aren't threaded and getting a bolt on the backside would be difficult to say the least, so we used a 3 jaw puller.

I think in 99 or 00, the pully was actually a part of the balancer, and was not removable. (ok, maybe once, but, you wouldn't be able to put it back on, and expect it to work....)
