Not sure whats going on here. The problem started yesterday, if i'm going more than 5 mph and i push in the clutch or put it in neutral it idles up to 1500rpm. Normal idle for my truck is around 650-700. Even if I'm riding and running at about 1100rpm and go to shift it will try to idle up to 1500(and on the rare occasion 2000), but if i am slowing down and get below 5mph it idles back down to 700. I've replaced the tps so far, but was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and found a solution before i go replacing the iac valve or anything else.

the IAC (mostly) and the TPS (some) interact to control the idle. the IAC motor moves a little plunger in/out of the well on the back of the throttle body to control the amount of air bypassing the closed throttle plate. its the most likely culprit in idle problems. replace it but if it doesn't fix the problem, keep the old one as a spare. same with tps. they come in handy in the future.

 

Replaced the IAC valve and its still doing it, any ideas? it sounds like it is sucking in air when i am not on the gas could it just be my luck of getting a bad part from the parts store, or could it be something else?

 

When it idles up, will it stay there? or, will it slowly come down to normal idle speed?

Any codes?

If you have access to a good scanner, you can do an IAC test, and see if it is just reacting slowly....

Did you reset the PCM when you replaced the IAC? (disconnect battery for a bit)

 

I had a simliar problem with depressing the clutch and the idle goes way up. Come to find out my intake gasket was bad.

 

It does sound like a vacuum leak, how does the heat controls and cruise work(if you have cruse)?

 

heat works good still and do not have cruise. i haven't checked the intake gasket, and i dont remember if i reset the pcm, i'll have to do that before i leave for work today. Also, no codes. it idles up and holds there until i get down to 4 mph then it idles down to 650-700 which is normal for my truck. i'll post if resetting the pcm works after work tonight. if anyone else can think of anything please post.

 

That might be normal...... since you have a manual trans....... PCM holds RPMs up a bit between shifts, so there is not so much of a shock when upshifting.... and the syncros dont have to work as hard downshifting..... Reset the PCM, see if anything changes.

 

The reset did it, i guess i forgot after i changed out the iac valve, thank you very much everyone after i give her a bath i'll post up a few pics of my truck so you all can see what you helped keep on the road lol.
