Motor not a problem, but the tranny's are different between 2wd and 4wd.

Yes, 2wd and 4wd! Can you explain a little bit better about what you are trying to achieve? Like which motor/trans is going where?

I may be mistaken, but I think the wiring between 1996 and 1998 transmissions will be different. You may have to do a custom wiring job.

basically i was just looking for a back up engine and trans for my truck in case it ever died on me. Right now everything works but my trans surges and i'm pretty sure i have problem cylinders but in general all runs well just sounds like it misses everynow and again and i got my check engine light stuck on do to random misfires etc

In that case, your plenum is blown(do a search here on DF for that), the pre cat o2 sensor is hosed, and your cat is most likely clogged.

I actually already replaced my plenum gasket with the kit you guys recommended lol

its the after the cat sensor...bank 2 and i had replaced it with a new one. So it is possible the cat could be clogged... but it looks as though it may be gutted by a weld i spotted like a trapt door.

i got 2 codes. One spacifically noted cylinder 3 and the other is just random cylinder misfire...i was leaning twards a faulty injectors
