Default Motor Swap

Ok heres the deal. Truck 2001 1500 4x4 off road 318 and auto trans 4.10 gears quad cab. I wanted more power so i put a 360 in it. I have a custom made suspension from airbagit.com 4 link rear full air ride front. " not installed yet" But still doesn't quiet seem to have what I want. Thinking about putting a Cummings diesel motor in there.. I know have to change all kinds of stuff and what not. Thats not the problem, I haven't ever seen nor has anyone around where I live heard of anyone doing this. Is it possible? Why or why would you not?

What did you do about the PCM for the larger cube motor? Just dropping the bigger engine in there is not going to accomplish anything, PCM needs to be able to run it correctly as well. If you haven't dealt with that issue yet, contact Hemifever here on this website, let him know what ya got, and he can set you up with a tune that will help you extract more power from what you have.

Diesel conversion HAS been done, but, it isn't simply a matter of swapping in the motor, frame needs reinforced as well, for the SIGNIFICANTLY heavier motor. In the end, it is cheaper/easier to just BUY a truck that already has the oil burner in it.

Any thing can be done if you have enough monay and time. Why not build a 409 motor and you will have all the power you want at hand or foot.

Most here are going to say it's not worth the trouble and it would be cheaper to just get a truck with a cummins already in it. At the very least, you'll want a donor truck if you decide to try it.

360 has plenty of potential, but if you just want a diesel buy a diesel

Take the 318 that was originally in your truck and stroke it out to 390. Throw some 2.02 Iron Ram heads, 210X camshaft, and a FI Airgap on that stout monster and proceed to roast the transmission.

did it on a buddies swapped in a 12v from a 92, a nv4500 from a 96 1ton i think, the front springs where from the same truck we got the trans from. he's been driving it for 5 yrs now and loves it, he used his stock 9.25 for a year until he finally swapped in d70. took us a weekend to do the swap. we didnt see any difference in the frame on the 96 one ton except for the mounts. It aint broke yet so i guess we did good. as for doing a diesel swap i think the only thing i would want to spend the time to put a diesel in is a durango. lol just sounds cool. other wise i would just buy one.
