Question 46re transmission problem!!!

i have a 1997 ram and i am having an issue with my 46re transmission but i don't have any DTC's present...i did have codes present but i have recently replaced the TCC solenoid/OD solenoid and installed a new torque converter and the codes went away. i even did a fluid and filter change. i am still having trouble though...the symptoms are when in "D" the rpms are increasing and i seem to have a lack of power while i can't go more than 35mph without a shift change...and when i put it into "R" there is a slight hesitation and shudder while rolling backwards..and i also may add that when in "D" if i press the brake you can hear and feel a clunking as if i have a bad mount? i did replace the transmission mount but not the engine mounts which im sure that the mounts wouldn't cause the truck not to go more than 35mph..but i think the real problem may be the valve body is clogged or some other internal transmission problem???? i just need a second opinion or any advice that can be offered..thanks in advance!

is the trans slipping? RPMs go up, but speed does not?

How many miles on the truck?

What does you fluid level look like? (check in neutral) Color? Smell??

well there is approximately 255,000 miles on the engine...yes the rpms increase but the speed does not...it will get to around 35 but thats about it..i don't notice any slipping except a surge like it wants to kick into another gear but doesn't..as far as the fluid level goes it is right on..and the color is red and no odor because i just changed the filter and fluid when i had the transmission out to install the new torque converter..there was a blackish metallic sludge on the bottom of the pan which im sure means that something inside is going or gone bad....and i forgot to mention that i had the transmission rebuilt less than 2 years ago by a reputable shop but i don't know if that is important information or not..i just know that im pretty sure i have an internal transmission issue..i just hope that it won't cost me an arm and a leg to get it fixed again.

Replace the governor pressure sensor, and solenoid. They are probably plugged up with the sludge you found in the pan.

You may have hit the answer as that was one of the dtc's I was having..dealing with gov pressure solenoid electrical....but when I put a new computer in the codes went away...so I assumed everything was ok. So you suggest I should change the sensor and solenoid to see if it fixes the problem...is there a way to test them to know for sure? Could a solenoid or sensor be electrically good but fail mechanically?

What is most common is for them to get clogged up, and not work properly. There is even a conversion kit available to go to a GM style, that has a self-cleaning solenoid. Drop the pan, and have a look at 'em, that will probably tell the tale. You might be able to get away with just cleaning them out..... but, if it doesn't work, you get to go in there again....... spend a bit more, and get genuine OEM parts. The aftermarkets, and remans don't have the best rep. Either the dealer, or MoparPartsOnline (or some such.)

Thanks for the info. I will drop the pan and see what I can find. Hope that is the problem. Will post back with my findings.
