My Ram took a dump on Mpgs's
alright during the summer and everything i was getting around 13 mpgs in the city...and i did off-roading etc.
well its been very cold here the last few weeks, and i dont drive the truck much, just to work and back and errands.....but from a full tank i got 124 miles, and im at an 1/8 of a tank. yea i did some 4x4 in the snow, but no more then 5 miles. and 5 miles but driving on a beaten trail most of the time in 4 high, not being hard on it at all. and sometimes i broke my own trail, but not much cuz it was deep.
i factor the truck breaking the snow put some stress on it, and burned some mpgs, but come on, 124 miles to a tank, i cant afford that when it took $85 to fill it.
I dont run the heat on full blast. usually i have it on the second lowest setting, with the indicator on the truck symbol, then i turn it to the lowest setting when its warmed up cuz my truck has hot air
i let it run in the morning before work for about 10-15 minutes with the heater on 2. i figure that can factor some loss.
but does this sound right? or do i got something going on?
and i found one of my sway bar end links is snapped in two today

Dont let it run for 10-15 minutes in the morning when its cold out like that. Your MPG will drop like flies trust me, thats one of worst things you can do to kill your MPG.. I did that to my Jeep thinking it was good for the engine, and i watched my MPG drop like 2 mpg average when I did this
Let it idle for like 30 seconds before you take off and drive it slowely while its cold. It will heat up fast enough this way. These arent 20-30 year old engines where you should let it idle, you can start it and take off right away its better then letting it idle eating your gas while your not even racking the miles up. Driving with the heat on doesnt affect MPG like driving with the A/C on at least so i heared.
Also winter driving really hurts the gas mileage. Im getting only 10-11 mpg right now in the cold where i got 13.4 when it was warm out. I only drive it in the city and I make short trips like you said thats something you are doing so you gas mileage will be terrible.
Altho 124 miles on a tank that seems like your getting 5mpg, dodge trucks have 23 gallon tanks like Jeeps do right ? Maybe something else on top of the cold is going on. Is your plenum bad ? you burning oil ?
