Default Transmission wont go into Park

1997 Ram 1500 4X4 5.9 liter with 200K miles.

Automatic wont shift into Park at all. The linkage seems to be moving freely. It feels like all gears shift OK. I plan to drain pan and see if anything is broken and laying in the bottom tomorrow. Anybody have this happen before? Not sure what could be blocking it from shifting to park?
Any ideas???

Shift linkage out of adjustment? Little plastic caps/cups/whatever worn allowing to much slop? When you think you have it in park, does it go in reverse instead?

Before you drop the pan, get under there and remove the linkage to determine if you can shift it into park at the transmission with the linkage off. If so, it's a linkage problem.

I am not sure how to adjust linkage. The linkage looks pretty good at all connections. I will disconnect the linkage off steering collum and see if I can pull linkage up all the way.
The lever does stop at "R" wont go all the way up to park. I read that there is a lever that could break in steering collum. I also have a 1995 Ram 2500 4x4 as a work truck. On that truck I can shift in and out of park without touching brake. So, could something in steering collum prevent it from shifting to park?

Pull the pan, and have a look. See if anything is obvious. There is a linkage inside the trans for park.... something may have fell out of place.

Many things. How is the external linkage? If you disconnect it, can you shift the trans into park down at the trans itself?
