FI and cold? Maybe this-
I agree...
Lastrights, you either have an air pocket in your core, or you have a bad core, or your 'stat isn't doing what 'stats are 'sposed to do.. Next time you start to drive, gas your truck forward, and then let go and coast a few feet while listening close.. pay attention to the passenger side to mid lower dash.. If you hear something that sounds like water rushing around, it's most likely you have air trapped inside that thing.. If you don't hear this, it just means you didn't hear it and nothing more.. These things are a floggin' monster to burp.

Gauges in these trucks aren't exactly known for their accuracy..... The PCM gets the clue from the sensor, and then tells the dash gauge what to read. The CTM gets its grubby little electronic foolishness in there somewhere as well... so, lotsa places for the signal to get confused.
dang guys.. I was simply going to pull the brass cap and put in the hole what's 'sposed to go in the hole- a sensor.. The other sensor won't hurt a thing hanging out exactly where it's at right now..
it should only be a ten minute job.. should... but, you guys know how ten minute jobs go..
Ain't nuthin happenin right now though.. It's dropping inedible, unsnortable, cold, white crap right now.. I'll get to it when I get to it... I'm just glad I got that lifter taken care of yesterday..

All I'm saying is that it might cause you to break out a tap set and buy a bigger plug.
About the other comment that was referring to mine, If I see that sucker move at all I'll pull over because since the install it hasn't budged after it hits the spot in the picture.
Maybe the sensor doesn't read from the tip as well as the sides that are covered in the airgap and it's just a heat transfer deal that shows the low reading.
That might be more trouble than it's worth. My airgap came with a plug for one of the holes (I put it in the one next to the thermostat) and it had red threadlocker pre-applied. I think it was threadlocker but it might have been some sort of thread sealant.

i agree with the general consensus here that lastrights has an air pocket in the system, and they can be the devil to burp. for what its worth guys, when i had my engine replaced in '05 the guys at the shop told me that there were 2different temp sending units that the 00 ram 1500 5.2 called for. they installed the one they thought was correct, and my truck has been reading the same as sheriff's ever since. just food for thought.
You've got two sensors, don'tcha? One for the gauge, and one that's actually used for engine management?
Oops, my mistake. I'd thought it was your truck in question... sorry about that.
Your truck should only have the one.
