Default I know another Gearing thread

So tax time is here. I've got a huge list of parts for my truck but I'm going to jump around a lil bit here I've got 32 11.5 15 for summer tires and winter is 285 75 16 I do some towing, long drives, short drives, mudding, a lil bit of everything. This is my daily driver I know everybody says go with 4:10 gearing but I want to make sure I get the perfect set for what I'm doing. So help me out, I've got a 4x4 so I know I have to buy 2 sets and I'm thinking Posi Lock to. What Brand and all that good stuff.

It is pretty much an opinion type question, so you will get mixed answers.

I personally would go with 4.56's... especially if there is even a small possibility you would be throwing some 35's under there in the future. Even with 285's though, I would swing for 4.56's.

That being said, 4.10's would work just fine too. I would just rather be on the lower end torque side of the equation with the 4.56's.

4.10s will keep the RPMs at any given speed closest to 'stock'. 4.56s, on the other hand..... will give you much more bottom end grunt, and only raise engine RPM at 65 mph in O/D by about 200 RPM........ Make your trans last longer too....... (calcs based on 33" tire.)

4.56's are starting to look pretty good......

I have 4.56 gears with 265/75 tires and I love it!! I would have been disappointed with 4.10's. At 60mph I am at about 2200 rpm. If you have 3.55 gears just turn off the OD and the rpm(and gas mileage) at 60mph and that is what its like with the 4.56 gears.

If it was your daily driver and you had no intentions of going bigger than 33's tires I would go 4.10. I actually got a boost in gas mileage from putting 4.10 in my truck with 33X12.50 BFG. If you have plans of tires bigger than 33 go 4.56 but get a side job for gas!

This is why I asked thanks guys. Where would be a good place to buy, do I have to get a front locker if I plan on doing the manual locking hubs?

Nope, not at all. But, if you do a lot of wheeling I would swing for one. If you mainly do street driving, I wouldnt bother with a front locker.

Yea I do mostly street driving. Once in a while the 4x4 to get back in the woods or threw a field to get to a tractor. Cant forgot the once maybe twice a year mudding, even though it would probably cost less to do a locker in front I liked the idea of less drag and everything.

Well, if you change to lockouts you wont have any drag when the hubs are unlocked. But, if this is a street truck and not a wheeler I see no benefit to adding a locker.
