Default Exhaust Question

My y-pipe duals are rotting of and I am looking around to see what other people are running on there 318 or 360 dodge's. I want to go with true duals, but I am not sure what size I want. I want to go with side exit behind the wheels because I pull a trailer and I don't want all that echo.

I believe factory is 2 1/2, I am thinking of going with 2 inch. One thing I am worried about is if I take my truck to a shop to get it done will they try and put a new Cat on to.

What size is the pipe going into the cat? That will probably be the size ill do the exhaust.

What do you use for muffler/glasspack. I had a cherry bomb and it sounded really nice but when I did my duals I just cut it out and left it out, but now that my cat is cut out it is really obnoxious. I love it like this, but I am going to do something with it because it has way to dam many exhaust leaks. Only half the exhaust makes it to the tips.

Very few shops will even touch it without a cat. There are legal issues there.

If you do true duals, you might have O2 sensor trouble.... Various ways of working around that.... Friend of mine that had his own shop ran duals on his truck, both down the passenger side, with a VERY short H pipe, that he mounted the O2 sensor in. Worked out well. (he had stock manifolds though.....)

For towing, go with 2.25, or 2.5 inch pipe.

Lol, figured that. When they build them on site do they fit them to the truck, or do they have a set plan that they follow for that model and year. Maybe I should just order one of the internet and do it myself.

Depends on the shop..... and then, it would also depend on if the truck ever came with duals, so the bender would have numbers to go by.

At the shop I worked at, we just custom bent everything. My friend was a real wizard when it came to pipe bending........ We cornered the market on custom exhaust work in town, got to see some REALLY cool cars come thru the shop.

Heres a couple of pics of what HeyYou was discribing. Its starts at 21/2 off the headers down to 21/4 for the rest of the pipe and runing two glass packs, 21/4 out of those to split exit behind the wheels.

Yep, O2 sensor is sticking straight up out of the middle of the H. That is exactly how my friend did it. No codes, works great.

What I have now is my cat on and I just cut a hole in the side and pulled all the packing out and welded it back together.
