Just curious how some of yall would feel if you had a chance to upgrade from a 360 to a 12 valve cummins, but downgrade from a 2001 to a 1996 interior body style? The diesel is a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 4X4 with the "million-mile" 12 valve, rebuilt automatic transmission, aftermarket wheels, 233,*** miles. I just dont know if knocking back the interior styling is something I want to do, but 4X4 and the infamous 12 valve is something I definantly want...

Yes, this one is a dually. I dont like the cupholder either, but Im sure I can come up with some kind of center console to rig up. Wonder if swapping interiors would be worth the time and effort?

definatley swap, i had a 1996 2500 with the 12V Cummins, interior aside the Cummins is the best engine you can get. Put on a banks sytem like this http://bankspower.com/products/show/71/31 and you will just love the power. I had this on my truck and she hauled A$$ and still got 28mpg.

Is this the 5.9l Cummings ? Do you need the extra 50-100lbs of torque ? I assume your 5.9 isnt 4x4 judging by your post ? Do you live in a area that requires 4 wheel drive ? Snow/ice, ect ?
Its not just the outdated interior your getting but a 5 year old vehicle as a whole, 5 year old parts, 5 year old body.. More possibilitys for things breaking, rust. ect.
Its up to you I dont know what dodge truck interior's look like. We traded in a 2004 Mitsubishi endeavor and used the cash to buy a 98 Grand Cherokee. The mistu of course had problems, drive shaft was messed up, bumper was cracked and needed new tires after all the repairs it woulda been $3200 so it wasnt worth keeping it. The Jeep has the 5.9 Engine, way more power then the Mitsu but overall outdated interior wise and year wise. I dont regret it at all.

Yes, I need 4 wheel drive where I live. I work on farms in the northern panhandle of Texas, and dirt roads are my daily drives. When it rains and snows, im screwed. And hauling things, I cant do because of the truck I have. But I am a neat freak with my truck, and this outdated interior is the only thing holding me back.

I don't know, unless the truck you are looking at is in rough shape I don't think the interior is really that outdated. Heck my 95 has auto-dimming rear-view mirror, compass, outside temp, power everything, the dash is more boxy looking than the 98+, but I never really felt it looked outdated... except for that analog mileage counter, that looks outdated
Anyway my point is I wouldn't let the interior hold you back, but like some others said, the truck is 5 years older, I would be more concerned about that, just other parts that could go out on you
