I'm installing some cab lights on my 1500 (This is a Canadian truck. May or may not matter). The truck didn't have any, however it was wired for them from the factory. I'm splicing in to the factory wiring for power. Here is my issue : They stay on. Always. Nothing turns them off except removing the bulb.

My Ram has a fried Daytime Running Light Module. I bypassed it to get the headlights / foglights to work properly. Could this be another issue with that module?

 

Where did you splice in at?

 

I spliced into what I am assuming are the orriginal plugs. There are five across the roof, each with a black wire and a pink.

 

also when I removed the IOD fuse, they lost power

 

were there only 2 little plugs like that one on the driver side and one on the passenger side? I Believe those are for lighted sunvisors or something like that, those plugs will always be hot.

 

I didn't put cab lights on my 2nd Gen, but my 3rd Gen has a wire harness in the passenger pillar. Did you check there.

Back in the day, we'd run 'em right to the fusebox where you could always meter out to a plug that's only hot when the driving lights are on. Also, you could just simply tap into one of those wires that's always hot that you found and installing a simple switch for the cab lights. Turn 'em on and off whenever you want to...

 

I'll look again today and let you know what I find. Its a little cold to be outside doing electrical, something like -25 with windchill

 

Daytime Running Light Module?

 

DRLs are required in Canada, I'm not sure if the American base has this module or not but its located on the drivers side inner fender under the hood

Also, pulled up the wiring diagram for the truck, confirms that I am in fact an idiot and spliced into the wrong junction. It was easy to find once someone said visor lights, prior to that searching for one wire in a 2000 page document is someone of a pain
