Default 4wd fixed..... kinda

So my actuator crapped out a while back. Old rusted and broke. So I replaced it with a brand new one today. The mechanic that did it broke one of the bolts but said 3 holding it in should be fine. Now when I go to put it into 4wd it sometimes takes forever or sometime goes right in. Sometimes it takes a few time back and forth and pulling the lever. Any ideas?

TAKE IT BACK! He broke it, he can extract it, or drill it out.

check to ensure that you have 17" of vac at the red line in 2wd and 17" at the black line in 4wd. if vac is good, the problem is in the CAD itself, which we can deal with once we determine vac.

EDIT: as a matter of fact i wouldnt even worry about fixing the 4wd, sounds like something he caused as well. have him fix it!

Yeah I figured that last bolt had something to do with it. Bc before the old one crapped out its shifted back and forth almost instantly. Not it seemd like sometimes it wants to and then other times i have to play with it to engage. So I will go back tomorrow and make him drill it and put the f'ing bolt in. For 60 bucks he should have done it anyways.

im not saying the bolt is causing this, BUT if it were me i wouldn't have let him get away with saying "well, i broke a bolt, but it'll be fine"

there is another issue as far as 4wd not engaging. which is why i listed your likely problems in my previous post. those are things he needs to check, because he f****ed em up!

the broken bolt is not causing the problem.

the slow/sluggish behavior is normal for these stupid cad units and is caused by weak or leaking vac, rusty shaft in the cad unit, bushing wear on the 2 shaft bushing/bearings and associated axle alignment problems, spline wear and burrs on the axles and collar. even when everything is perfect, it can still be sluggish to line up and engage/disengage.

the cad is a pos.

If the broken bolt is one of the bottom ones, it is only a matter of time before you start getting a leak there as well. (voice of experience.)
