Default Rear axel movement

The rear wheels on my 99 dodge ram 5.9L 4x4 have a tiny bit of play. If i grab the tire and push and pull on it as hard as I can there is some movement on the axel not much but enough that you can hear a clank. I was replacing the shoes on it the other day and I could see the axel move as I pushed and pulled on it. I know there should be some movement there but they do make noise on large bumps. Any ideas? C clips??

They are held in by c-clips, so, the clunk isn't unexpected either.

If it doesn't move very much, and doesn't make crunching/grinding noises, don't worry about it.

Normal, don't worry about it.
