Default Looking at a '99 RAM 2500 QuadCab

Hi all,

Thought I would check and ask opinions of 4WD shortbox listed in my subject line. I'm looking for a 3/4T truck that I use pretty much on weekends only - to the dump, ice fishing, take the boat to the lake, etc. Probably looking at 6-7K miles per year.

This one is a local one-owner truck with 70K miles and has the 360 with auto tranny. My ex had a '97 that was identical including the engine, except hers was a 1/2T. Never had any issues with it and she had it about eight years.

The only thing I'll ask this truck to do in "work horse" mode is make an annual 2000 mile round trip pulling a 16' double axle trailer with about 2800 lbs. on it on way back home.

I had a '96 1 ton dually with the v-10 - only issues I ever had with it was the front sway bar or steering bar - can't remember what it was called now. I traded it in at 330K miles three years ago, and I still see it running around.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That's a bit high IMO. I can see about $7,000-$8,000 for a 99 with 70,000 miles.

I agree that pricing sounds a bit high. In the mean time, I just got a call back from dealer that has an '01 2500 - same as above but with a v-10 and 97K miles. Very nice looking rig, carfax checked out and only $8K. They thought they had it sold, but it's back on market again. It was my first choice.

Too high for sure. There are obviously other factors involved (like body condition, what it was used for), but I got mine with 78K for 7900 bucks with a plow. A few dents but no rust (on the body anyway).

I ended up getting an '00 2500 Quad Cab 4WD with V-10 and auto tranny. Just over 100K miles, excellent condition and $6K cash.

Just watch out for the tranny!

I just paid $2100 to get it done right with a shift kit and it comes with a 3yr/50k warranty from AAMCO/Cottman Transmission Shop.

Here in AZ most of these rigs run 6000-7000 range but most of them have high miles.

KBB the value. Then, don't pay ONE DOLLAR more than the "fair value". Why, you ask?

Because the economy is in the ****ter and people are willing to HAGGLE!
