Looking at a '99 RAM 2500 QuadCab

1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.9L 88,500 miles.
I payed $7000 cash for it, guy was firm and wouldn't take $6500 which was closer to KBB.
No scratches, dents, rust or chips. The only blemish is a cracked mirror on the passenger side, which I'm waiting on some time to replace it.
I've drove it for 1,500 miles now, haven't had any weird noises so it runs pretty well, but I'm going to probally make the first oil change at 90500.

Neither I nor the dealer knew it was going to eat its transmission within 3k miles. I swapped that sumbitch out for a PATC Mega Viper when the 3-4 shift got sloppy, wasn't waiting around for it to fail when I was far from home and would have few options. I knew when I bought it that the Mega Viper was going to happen within 5k miles, so I have no reason to cry. The dealer didn't screw me; the luck of the draw did. I got 2,000 fewer miles out of the transmission than I'd expected... no tears were shed over that.
If you get another 100k miles out of the transmission, you did okay on that deal. If not, well... call PATC and just be happy that you're driving a 2nd Generation Ram. Darn fine trucks once you get that factory transmission out.

The truck in my Sig was $3,300 with 132k miles on her. Rusted rocker panels and blown plenum. Other than the plenum kit and a tune up she runs fantastic!

I picked up my '98 1500 Club Cab 5.9l 4WD base model with 96k miles from a new dealer lot for $4999 last April. AutoCheck scored 93. It had a few minor cosmetic imperfections but was otherwise bone stock and pristine.

You happen to have a reputable website? Only one I found I don't know if I'd want to buy anything off of. What would the price range be for one of these should something bad happen?

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm -- it's an ugly web page but it's a reputable company behind it.
The prices are on that web page.
Mine, with some add-ons and upgrades, was $3447.90 delivered. That's a lot of scratch for a transmission but I'd do it again without hesitation. I'm going to find out just how far the darn thing can go with routine preventive maintenance -- it ought to be a long, long, long way.
