Default tranny line temp?

How hot should steel transmission cooler lines get. I grabbed mine today and after 25 miles i could barely hold on to them there hot! Is this normal?

i dont think they are suppose to get over about 130 deg. under normal conditions. they will too hot to touch. 100deg is too hot to touch.

180-210 on the outbound side, 150-180 on the return, is normal. Cooler is better, though, to a point.

i did have my plow on and it blocks alot of wind. i imagine that would have something to do with it too.

It might be a good time to drop a few bucks on a cheap infrared thermometer to discover if there's a significant problem and/or set your mind at ease. If the transmission is running too hot you're going to really hate the result of it. The threshold for the Trans Temp idiot light is 260F, so by the time it illuminates varnishes have already formed and it's past time to do a full ATF replacement.

Just a thought.... If the trans idiot light comes on at 260F, is it possable to replace the sending unit with a 180F.

Nah, it's not a standalone part. But a transmission temperature gauge is a very good idea.
