Default Monroe Gas Magnums or Monroe-Matic Plus

I have been reading through past threads. In the poll thread, there a few of you that really like the "Monroe Gas-matic" shocks. I can't find these shocks....are you guys combining the names of two different shocks together on accident? The Gas Magnums and the Monroe-Matics? <edit> OK, I found the Gas-Matic at Advance Autoparts.

I have found 4 finallist in my shock replacment quest (mostly based on price since my truck has 214k on it and I am looking to get 2 more years out of it).

(not in order)
1) Monroe-Matic Plus $21.99
2) Monroe Sensa-Trac $43.99
3) Monroe Gas Magnum $43.99
4) Monrore Gas-Matic $24.99

I am thinking of putting the cheapest Monroe-Matic Plus on the rear and either the Sensa-Track or Gas Magnums up front.

(any hidden land mines I need to be aware of when changing shocks on the 97 1500?)

What do you guys think?

There's a lot of shocks I would buy before I would get a Monroe. Can I suggest Bilsteins.

Can you suggest Bilsteins for under $50/shock?

No, but shocks are a "get what you pay for" kind of product. Guess it depends on how soon you want to do shocks again.

I agree with Silver - you get what you pay for. Try Allshocks.com. They have the Bilsteins for 64.95 with free shipping. That's almost 1/2 compared to what some local retailers want here.

I was going to order mine, but as I'm reading on here - I need the plenum fix - YUK!

TLars.....thanks.

I am going to order Bilsteins for my wife's XJ from that site! But for the Dodge...I have to do it today. I have some seriously bad wheel hopping issues on the highway. Can't wait for shipping.

Thats could very likely be the track bar, not the shocks. Common issue on our trucks due to the design.

Oh, I know I have some track bar issues. The ball joints look blown out. (TLars...know any great discount places for track bars? lol)

But I am refering to wheel hop in the rear at highway speeds. If the pavement sections are at just the right interval, it gets hairy.

I had the sensatracks and they ride nice. I've also had the monroe-matics, cheaper but they work fine. All of them have a lifetime warranty. I would just get the monroe-matics because they are half the price. I'm running them now.
