Question Wiring problems on 1994 Dodge Ram 1500

My son has bought this truck and we are trying to install an aftermarket stero. The problem where having is when we pull on the light for head lights and running lights it blows the fuse and the stero turns off. We have check the wiring from the lights to switch nothing wrong there. I am thinking it has something to do with the wiring of the stero and maybe the crime guard. It has shaved doors handles and this crime guard alarm system. Really need wiring diagram for this truck so we would know what wires are what. Thanks The Masters Family

There is an 01 service manual in the faq section..... not sure how closely that will match with your truck though.....

Welcome to the forum. First off how did you wire the radio in. did you buy an adapter plug to plug the factory grey and black plugs to the aftermarket radio? On aftermarket radios you don't need to hook up the illumination wire from the factory plug. Usually an orange wire. If you bypassed the factory plugs and just spliced into the original harness you may have used the illumination wire for a power source that will overload the fuse.

With the headlights off, the illumination wire for the radio will read as a ground. If radio's ground is hooked to this wire, the fuse will blow and radio wont work when lights are turned on.....Check the ground for the radio and be sure to insulate the illumination wire and any others not used from the factory harness.
