I do believe bilstein are a better shock...but I am curious about the adjustability of the rancho...especially since i sometimes have a plow and sometimes a trailer...just wondering how durable that adjustment is

i run an 8' plow on my 01 1500. i put diesel coils on the front end and it drops less than 1" when the plow is raised and i didnt really noticed a difference in ride quality.

Thanks for the replies...I ended up getting the stock size Bilstein HD and with a 2" urethane coil spacer. Also got new sway bar end links...because both sides were disconnected. Can't wait to get them on...hopefully my ride is greatly improved.

Now to pick out new tires...looking at the Wrangler Duratracs. Hmmm...what size to get...285/75/R16 or 315/75/R16.

Whatever came stock.

P.S. I went with the Bilstein HD because they had a lifetime warranty and seemed the most durable...I don't want to replace parts twice.

Probably 3.55 gears then. With 35's (315's) and a plow..... that is going to beat the crap out of your trans. Possible even the 285's will be pushing it.

I would highly recommend an auxillary trans cooler, and a temp gauge.

Good point on the tranny...it does have a tendency to struggle with the plow or the trailer (the trailer holds quads or a car), especially on the highway and hills...thats why i have it serviced regularly...i guess big wide tires may over do it. But i do think nice looking tires would give the truck a good look...especially with the leveling kit. 90% of the time i am just driving it, but i don't want to break it when i want to use it like a truck.

Might want to start saving money for a gear swap. Your trans will thank you.

i have 285's(duratracs) on my truck with the diesel coils and the aal's i plow with mine and dont notice it struggling what so ever while plowing. i have an aux. trans cooler, and stock 3.55 gears. i also have the superchips 3715 tuner, which probably helps some. im going to be doing the plenum fix when it gets warmer as well.

also, if you go with 315's and plow with them you will destroy your tires! i had 35's on my truck for a couple weeks and i rubbed wicked bad without the plow on and i only have a 2" lift up front with the diesel coils. so if you get the 315's and try to plow you will rub extremely bad!
