DIY trans temp gauge, remote filter and aux cooler
well after reading alot of threads on this site and others, i have just purchased and installed a bunch of new parts to help extend the life of my trans
EDITED FOR FUTURE USE
Perma-cool remote filter and guage
B&M 24,000 gvw aux cooler
3/8's hose coupling
to make thing easier i made sure the trans fiter and cooler both had 3/8's fittings before i order either one from summit. all in all it cost me close to $180 with shipping

i started off by finding a good location for the filter

then i found a suitable location for the super-cooler, and mounted it with the "zip ties" through the condenser with the aluminum strap behind it, to insure they dont rip through! the third pic, is behind the ac condenser

then it was time to cut and splice the the factory trans lines, one of the packages came with a fitting that fit where the check valve was so i deleted that while i was at it
stock

aux cooler

and the remote filter

i then filled up the filter and cooler with trans fluid prior to starting it, i wanted to avoid the whole dry start thing, anyways i made this little tool with some left over parts to help me out.

i then mounted my gauge in the cab above the gas pedal. i made this little bracket to hold the gauge and my bass ***

so far i have the gauge wired up but every time i hooked up the illumination wire or the gauge ground the gauge zeros out, so im gonna have to go over the wiring and diagrams.
on my way to work earlier i noticed the temp didnt get over the 140* mark

To the OP, your gonna want to double clamp your hose fittings. Under throttle, they will make themselves loose. Good job though!!!
For those who want to do this very helpful mod, you can buy all the stuff you need a lot cheaper if you piece it together. The remote oil filter will cost you $15, a trans temp gauge from glow shift for $30 (I got one on ebay for $20) and a tranny cooler from the bone yard for $15. $60 plus $10 for the hose and fittings comes to $70.

actually both the b&m kit and the Perma-cool kits instructions tell you to never double clamp the fittings.
and i had compared prices separately and they were about $10-15 cheaper on ebay, but each item had a shipping charge of $20, so i just ordered them all together so they would all arrive at the same time and i only paid $14.95 for shipping.
summit actually shipped them in two huge boxes a day apart so i think they lost money on that one! lol

The only thing that bums me out about that setup is that by the time that gauge reaches half-deflection it's time for an ATF change. I might well be old school but the way I figure it anything on any gauge beyond half-deflection should indicate time for concern... by the time you see 230F in the pan it's time for panic.
Update
Ok I was heading to work earlier and after driving for 20 mins, I had to stop at a stop sign.
When I start driving off I notice the truck won't go into 3rd gear.
So I pulled over, bypassed the filter and cooler checked the fluid level and helped the trans manually shift 1, 2 then after some finesse I got it to shift into 3 then 4th.
Do talk think my governor is clogged?
I need help right away if anyone has been through this before.
I'm about to go drop the pan and change the fluid and filter, along with the pressure governor and switch, tcc lock up switch and adjust the front and rear band

ok guys ive been researching online and maybe i just had too much tranny fluid? when i bypassed the cooler and filter i did lose some fluid but, its still in good range and everything is back to stock.
or was the aux cooler cooling the fluid too much? like i said before they gauge didnt read above the 140* mark.
the way i had it was the filter/gauge hooked up to the tranny out line.
then the hose went to the factory cooler, then through the radiator.
then the aux cool hooked up to the trans return line, bypassing the check-valve.
sorry ive got a million things going through my head right now.
oh and by the way J415 i picked up a bunch of extra clamps to double everything up, i was gonna do that originally but the directions went against my plan. do you know why they would tell you not too?

Don't know why they would tell you not to double clamp it but people around here will tell you to do so. Make sure you didn't cross feed the hoses by accident. You'll burn up your tranny that way.
