Default Axle Paint Question

I'm not sure how warm the axles get during regular use and was wondering if anyone knew if you can use regular spray paint on the axles or does it have to be high temp paint?

What did you use to strip the outside to prepare it for paint? Did you prime it first?

Sandpaper, scotch brite, or sand blaster, what else? Of course you prime.

I've had regular Dupli-Color black on my rear diff cover for about 4 years. Still looks as good as the day I painted it.

PurplDodge,

Thanks for the relevant info on prep and priming. Seems easy enough. Jury is still out on the sarcasm to an easy question. Obviously painting metal is new to me...

You will get used to the smart *** comments around here... No harm no foul. To be honest I dont think Purpl means to come off as a dick just comes natural for most of us.

Fair enough. I'm pretty good at working on things (turning a wrench) but painting has always been something I've sucked at including in my house...

I have gotten a TON of good info off of this website so far and appreciate it.
