Question Stalling Problem

Hey all,
I have a 96 dodge ram 1500 that i just purchased. I'm having a little bit of a problem. if i start the truck and dont give it enough time to warm up, it stalls as soon as i step on the brakes and start to slow down. it only does this when the truck has just been started. it runs just fine after its had a chance to warm up. any ideas what could be causing this problem. my wife drives the truck and i worry about her getting into trouble while driving. thanks for the help.

I had a Tarus SHO that did the same thing, I replaced the fuel filter and throttle position sensor and it was fine. Not sure if that would work for you but just a thought

Throwing any codes? Could be iac related, or ect (many others as well, just guessing pending more info).

IAC is Idle Air Control Motor. <- this is likely your problem. Pull the throttle body, (get a new gasket first, they are like 2 bucks at advance....) IAC is on the back side. Pull it out, clean the pintle, and the passages. Disconnect the battery while your are doing it up. Put it all back together, and crank it up. Might have to keep your foot on the gas for a bit till the PCM relearns the idle.

ECT is Engine Coolant Temp sensor.

Would it be better to buy a whole new AIC unit, rather then taking it apart and cleaning it?

all you do is take it out, and clean the 'pointy' part of the valve, and the passages in the TB. Any more than that is likely to make sure it never works right again. If that doesn't help, THEN replace it.

I just wanted to follow up on this and say a big thanks to HeyYou! It ended up being my IAC valve that was causing my problems. I ended up buying a new valve and it has ran perfect ever since. thanks again for all the help!
