3 big problems i need help with!!!
hello,
i have never used a form site yet but here we go
i have a 97 dodge ram 4x4 5.2 v8 with 4 inch skyjacker lift, 33" wheels and a cat back exaust with two batters
1 st question?
- when driving in two wheel drive really slow with out touching the gas i hear a grinding type sound comming from my front passager side once in a while???
2nd question?
- when truck is in gear going at low speed my 4x4 shifter handle (the one that is on the floor) you can see a vibration in it and feel it. When you start picking up speed the vibration gets worse and makes nosie with the tires????
3rd question?
- when my truck hits operating temp the rpm's drop to about 400 to 450 rpm's and the oil presser gose past the middle line closer to the 0???
can anyone help me please i would be so happy thank you all in advance.
p.s what is the tags thing right under the box im typing in?

1- Jack that tire up and spin it, then grab it at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and pull/push on the tire (pull the top while pushing the bottom and vice versa). Then grab the axle shaft and try to move it with a bit of force.
If you hear the grinding when you spin it by hand then try to see if it's coming from the u-joints or the wheel bearing.
When you wiggle the tire by grabbing the top and the bottom you are looking for movement, if it moves then there's a good chance that your wheel bearing is bad.
If you have any movement in the axle shaft when you jar it then your u-joint is bad.
2-My shifter moves too but doesn't vibrate. Get under the truck and push on the transmission mount to see if it's firm rubber (like it should be) or if it feels like a gummy bear. Oil will soften up a transmission mount and you'll get a lot of movement in the shifter.
Worn out motor mounts allowing the engine to rock excessively could also make the transmission move a lot meaning that the shifter would too.
3-Not sure.

For problem 3, remove your throttle body, and clean the IAC motor, and passages on the back of the TB. If that doesn't help, replace it. Oil pressure is a function of engine RPM, if the revs aren't there, the pressure won't be either.
im going to ASSUME that your miscalculating your RPMs, have another look, should be more like 650-700.
if thats the case, a mechanical pressure gauge is in order (im suprised i beat HeyYou to it!
)
you've likely got worn journals/bearings causing low pressure. as ive said before volume is key here, and if you've got good volume you can squeeze quite a few more miles out of this engine before it needs a rebuild.
do a search, there are LOTS of members with the SAME issue
