DIY suspension lift. couple questions
first off, im new to posting, been searching and lookin at crap for awhile. i bought a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 6 inch suspension and 4 inch body lift. i bought new shocks for it from RoughCountry and found out that the shocks were waaay to long, by about 5 inches. now the truck has 4 inch blocks on the leaf springs, and it sits level so i would assume it has a 6 inch suspension lift up front. the truck is sitting on 38" swampers so it HAS to have more than a 4 inch body lift or im positive that the tires would not fit. but im obviously not happy that my truck does not have a true lift on it, and i would like to purchase one, but even if i had the money i would not spend 1000 bucks on a lift.
what i would like to is buy the springs, and the pitman arm. the rest (sway bar drop brackets, upper&lower control arms, and track bar drop bracket) i will build myself. i figure after buying coil springs, pitman arm, and new bushings, (already have shocks) i would well under the 1000 dollar mark. im well capable of making these, (im a welder and get stupid amounts of metal for free) so i figure why not?
upper& lower control arms and sway bar brackets will be no problem, only questions i have, is with the track bar drop bracket. does anybody have a good set of dimension for this? i will be running a dual front stabilizer shocks as well and curious if the track bar will interfere with this what so ever? any input is welcome.
thank you. this is a dancing banana

Im no expert on lifts but I know people with the right rims and tire setup can run 35's on only a 3" body lift so I would guess with the right setup you could turn 38's on a 3" body and 3" suspension. (once again dont qoute me on this and dont tear me a new one if Im wrong please) And I also dont think any company makes 4" body lifts. I was told that over 3 was unsafe. So I would think if it was over 3 it was a home made body lift. You could get under the truck and measure one of the body lift blocks and see how tall it is. Also did you check part numbers to make sure that rough country sent you the right shocks?
have already talked to rough country, they will send me the correct shocks no charge if i send these back, but yes they are 4 inch blocks, not homemade, i have already checked everything over and its all correct, i just dont understand how the back has 4 inch body lift and 4 inch block under spring, and the front end is still level with rear end. it would have to have at least a 6 inch suspension for it to be level. damn im confused, oh well, will throw on new lift and call it good. just need some dimensions that i cant find ANYWHERE
It came stock with a 3" block so if it's only got 4" of block in the back it's just a 3" lift on there plus you bodylift. From looks of that pic it looks like about 7" of total lift. If you had a 6" suspension and 4" body that'd be 10" of lift that truck would tower on those 38's. As far as the track bar drop bracket goes I would look into getting a aftermarket one that changes the joint and comes with the bracket. Topguncustomz.com has a nice one I'm fixing to order. The factory one is garbage and not worth the hassle. Also rough country shocks are long. You prolly ordered 5" lift shocks and the front like I said is prolly only lifted 3". But my shocks on my 5" kit will still let the spring come out the pocket with no sway bar.

Yea stock 4x4 1500's come with a 3" block in the back, therefore if you only have one block mesuring 4" it would look silly high on the front with 6", it probrably has a 3" lift in front.
Also the way it sits on those tires I would say forsure it doesnt have the 10" you thought it did, looks more like 5" maybe 6"
And ugly what type of lift you running

well i spose that explains it, since i had no idea these trucks came with 3 inch blocks on rear from factory. but in the end, it will have a 6-7 inch suspension lift and maybe drop body lift to a 3 inch.
so back to topic, does anybody have anyyyy dimensions or has anybody ever made a homemade track bar drop bracket, and last but not least, exactly how important is the drop bracket? will it throw my geometry off completely or no?
this is not a daily driver, but i drive it on the street a lot and only RARELY go off road
