Default Random skip

Ok so this is the first full week of me driving the new truck. already im having a wierd skip problem. When the truck is at idle, the rpms constanly go up and down by 100rpm, usualy goes from 700-800, its never steady. When im driving, when the truck is warmed up, every now and then it will skip like engine is gonna die just realy quick then it goes away. It doesent realy matter how much im into the gas. Theres no cel. Also i havent done a tune up yet. Has this happened to any one?

Also the speed at which im traveling does not affect the skip, it has happened when i was cruising at 60 or acceleration around 30. It only skips when my foot is in the gas tho. in a 20 mile trip, it will happen a couple times, sometimes it will not happen at all no matter how far i drive it.

First clean your throttle body, IAC and, IAC passage on the tb, If that doesn't help check for an intake leak. Also suspect your Throttle position sensor.

tps is new, and the plenum is going bad cause there is oil in the bottom of throttle body, so that would cause a vacume leak i think.

Oil on the intake plenum doesn't necessarily mean you have a leaking gasket. All the oil can be blow by from the PVC system. There is a procedure to check to see if you have blown plenum gasket. Look it up, there is a TSB for it. Just involves a vacuum gauge and some vac line.

First thing first. Clean your TB. You would be surprise how much of a difference it can make.

Could be a slight miss/predetontation problem also, in which case, tune up parts would likely be to blame (plugs, cap, rotor, etc.). Barring tune up parts: could be a fuel sending/pressure/pulse issue.

you say you see a slight rpm fluctuation at idle, then say that the skip only happens when you're on the gas. Are the "skip" and rpm fluctuation related? (i.e. do you feel the skip at the same moment your rpms fluctuate?)

If it is a miss (but a slight one) it will take some time for the ecm to register a code ( they tend to stay in the pending state for a while if its not a dead miss). If you have some way to access a fairly sophisticated scanner, you can take a look at the codes the ecm has flagged as "pending".

I have the same problem, my 318 will be running great one min, then the next it goes into a skipping fit for about 30 seconds, back to good for another couple of minutes. It has done this ever since I got it three years ago, I just got used to it and eventually it will stop. It does it a lot more when it's cold or wet outside. Did you ever find an effective solution?

Change the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs.
