Default Question about the infinity speaker system

I know the infinity system has it's own amp, I was looking at some new stereos and one feature that some of them have is a high pass filter so you can limit the real low end bass that the speakers can't handle, but since the speakers are being driven by the built in infinity amp, do any of those type of features on the headunit even make a difference?

Are you planning on just replacing the Head unit on the truck? Or are you wanting to change the Speakers as well?

I put an aftermarket HU in my 97 Ram with inifinity system, and don't hear any problems sending full signal to the stock speakers. I would think the built-in amp probably has it's own crossover making the HU's high/low pass filters irrelevant.

DRP74, just the headunit, looking for something fairly inexpensive with built in iPod controls, but figured I would spring for a little extra if I could make it sound a bit better

brewman, thanks that kind of what I was thinking but didn't know for sure

My truck had a aftermarket head running through the factory infinity wiring and spaekers. I changed the speakers out at first. Then bypassed all the factory wirring and ran new. And installed a high pass filter running to my tweets. And it sounds way better. But mabe its just me.

The factory infinity system doesn't have an external amp. The speakers themselves have individual amps on them. Best thing to do is replace headunit and speakers.

To get the best sound. Your best to Change head unit, and Speakers. I've done a lot of custom stereo's. In my truck I changed out the head unit, Speakers including tweeters and added a 10" sub. U can do a really nice system really inexpensive. Depending on what you want. a good set of components for the front, 5 1/4" for the back, and a single sub under back seat. With a nice 5 Channel amp will make the it sound really good. If you need anything i'm sure i got stuff here i can sell ya. Make u a good deal. new or used. Just send me a PM

Thanks guys! To be honest I don't care to much about great sound. I don't really drive the truck to much, but when we do drive it, the trips are generally on the longer side so I wanted a radio that I could hook my iPod to without using those crappy fm transmitters. I'm looking at radios in the less than 150 range, I was comparing radios that were like 20 bucks difference and that 20 bucks got some features like the high pass filter, so I just wanted to know if those features would make any difference with that infinity system. I ended up going with a JVC model that had both iPod and front and rear aux, then I can permanently attach a Sirius dock that I have laying around from a past vehicle too.

to my knowledge infinity systems are all slightly different. My 02 i could leave the factory amps and speakers in with no problems putting in a new headunit. my buddy that installs at the sterio shop said that some of the infinity packages you have to basically disable the amps and some you can use with the new heads.
