I was starting this dance until my tranny shop found a big chunk of snap ring in the pan.

Novarider,
I just underwent the same problem with the p1740 code - Torque Converter Clutch circuit malfunction. I cleared the code, and the truck continued to drive without any problems. Then 300 miles later, wouldn't leave 1st gear. Had the solenoids replaced, they were clogged up. The transmission shop told me this is common with Dodge trannys and may or may not need a rebuild, but problem came back within 50 miles. The engine light never came back on. It's in the shop now getting a total rebuild. I feel your pain.

I've learned over the past weekend what garbage the Dodge trannys are in these trucks.

Start by adding all the info about your truck to your sig and profile. Also get one of these for your truck. http://www.dodge.com/wccsapp/univers...ull&category=U

The year of truck is important for this and pretty much most question asked about a 2nd gen ram. They look, but are not all the same.

And what solenoid are you looking for? Gov or TCC/OD ?

If who you are buying from does not know, I would recommend buying fro someone else. More info on your symptoms and your truck as Zman mentioned would help greatly!

1997 Dodge Ram1500, 5.9L...4x4 auto.. transmission seems to work great for about 6 miles. then it won't want to shift out of first gear sometimes 2nd gear.. lot of slipping when it does not shift. I change the filter and fluid. old fluid look brownish. also sometimes it doesn't shift from second to
third I can put it into neutral and back into drive to get it to shift. THX

That sounds like a clogged Gov solenoid for sure. You can get a kit from ebay. Can't find the link right now sorry. Someone else will chime in with that I'm sure.
