transmission problem
i have a 94 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 4x4, i bought it back in December and the check engine like came on but nothing seem to be wrong with it and hasnt been on since i left nebraska. i drove it from nebraska to wyoming with no problems and the transmission started acting up. first it started by not engaging into gear unless i gave it gas then it engaged, then driving it down the road it would shutter like the torque converter was messing up or a soleniod was bad but i cant tell any info would help greatly
well...... i don't know anything about transmissions, but, that's not good. the non-engagement in first gear could be just worn/loose band that might improve with an adjustment. the going down the road shudder - i don't know. does it do it only in overdrive, or all gears. you might try leaving OD off to avoid the problem.
there's not too much you can do on your own beyond a fluid and filter change and hope for the best. use only ATF+4, and check for any loose or broken parts that have fallen into the pan. (this is sort of common). you can also adjust the bands by the procedure listed in service manual, haynes, etc.
according to monte's standard advice - about the last, simple, do it yourself repair is to clean or replace the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. you can read his thread for what conditions warrant that. i think its more shifting related than your shuddering problem, but i'm not sure. the whole thing is a mystery to me.

my only other suggestion (if you can get it there) is to take it to a couple of transmission shops for a diagnosis and "free estimate". that should be able to check the pressures, road test, etc. depending on how it feels - i wouldn't go too far from home.

i checked the fluids and the condition and its all good it does it shudders in every gear but it doesnt do it everytime for some reason the guy i bought it from said he put on a new tranny cooler and temp sensor and said the temp read 120 no matter what the weather was and power washed it and it started working and when it started it was reading fine then it quit working right and the tranny shifted fine engage everytime until the temp readad right then it started again but i dont think that would have anything do with the tranny messin up
ok well this is a new problem i replaced the transmission and i went to start it well it idle at one hundred rpms you could hold it to the floor and only get it to go to 1000 rpms then it died and wont start i checked double checked and triple checked all the sensors i replaced the cap rotor plugs and wires along with the ignition coil and i still have nothing a buddy told me that dodge put a sensor or something behind the flywheel or something like that that tell it how much fire or something along that lines he told me that it went bad but i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what might be wrong with it
The crank sensor is what your friend is talking about. If you don't know what it is, then chances are good you damaged it when removing/installing the tranny. Usually won't start at all though. Sounds to me like the cat is clogged.

well i got another issue it was the crank position sensor and it started for about 30 second roughly ran fine idle perfectly then a loud clunk and the engine died instantly i can move the flywheel counter clockwise and it turns with no problem but i turn it clockwise it get to a certain spot and it wont move i tried cranking it over and the starter only click but not like it has a dead battery but like its stuck i checked over everything the crank is good connecting rods valves are all good timing chain is brand new i cant figure it out if someone could help it would help greatly
has it run at all after the transmission was replaced?
this could be about anything. something in the engine, or something in the torque converter/transmission.
if it hasn't really run since the trans was replaced, i'd probably unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate to determine which is locked up - engine or trans.
