1999 ram 1500 5.2L 2wd
hey guys, just joined today. my name is trent moody and i live in la vernia texas. i have a 99 dodge ram 1500 5.2L (318) laramie slt, 2wd all stock except custom streo system, posi trak with 3.55 ratio(hopefully 3.73 soon) running valvlonie 10 w 30 synpower switched from conventional 30wt at 130000 truck now has 134000 and is well maintained have cat back dual exhaust with a torpedo pak muffler. i am loking at doing a turbo build for low end torque, i use it has a work truck....and i have overload springs off an f250 in the rear and i would like some info on my fuel pump, injectors, and pcm upgrade to run the turbo. the turbo will be out of the 80's model mustang 4cyl. im looking for real power, im seventeen and not into tuner stuff at all i like raw horespower, (there is no replacement for displacement.) thanks guys/girls and btw, love the forum!!

yes, my mom works at a body shop that has their own wrecker service and junk yard(10 acres i think) with plent of dodges but thats a later mod. i use it alot for towing my four wheelers and livestock trailer(16 ft all steel) and am tired of constant downshifting or 3000+ rpm on the highway with o/d off but i have been looking into a shift kit anyways because if i do the turbo install, i will need to rebuild tranny anyway.

also does anyone have good ideas for performance gains and possible some mpg, i would consider a programmer but if i install turbo, it defeats the purpose because i will have a piggyback ems and i dnt think the 180 stat is worth the fuel consumption but anything else for under $1500 bucks my ears are open to thnx guys

You are going to have to have some custom tuning done to accommodate boost in any event, not to mention being able to understand a 2 bar map sensor. Hemifever does SCT tuners which will work for ya, and does custom tuning for like 365.00. You won't find a better price.
Never, ever tow in Overdrive. You will quickly smoke your trans. Rear gears aside, running in overdrive generates a lot of heat in the trans fluid, heat kills transmissions....
Have a look in the General discussion section at the "Extreme 4x4 96 Ram" thread. They were all about gas mileage in there. Most of those ideas would apply equally to your truck.
