I would buy a salvage title truck if I knew it wasnt involved in a flood.

I wouldnt be suprised if that truck came from New Orleans.

 

How bad does your headliner look? Hows the rest of the interior look?

 

That is still shady. When the title came back salvage, why didn't you question him then? I hope you didn't pay much for it being salvage to begin with. That honestly sucks man.

+1 on the por 15 buy it off their website. Take a wire brush and try to get most the rust off the infected area. You do have to coat both sides of the infected area with por15 but its not too hard you just have to be creative with finding a way to do it. Dont get the por on your hands or anything else because it will take forever to come off...

 

If I were you Id do some trimming to begin with. get that thin rust out of there and with a long bristle thin brush, apply the por15. This stuff is a bit runny and by tilting the truck one way and then the other you may get decent coverage. After that replace the sheet metal applying it with patch panel epoxy as to not burn off the por15.

Make sure to use a drop cloth. You'll not like trying to get the por15 off ANYTHING!

 

If you go with the POR-15, keep in mind that it works best when you're painting over a rusty, gritty surface. You don't want to sand the rust down too much, just get the loose, scaly rust off. You're suppsed to cover it with a topcoat of paint, but if it's going on the interior of the truck, and covered with headliner material, you might get away without painting over it. Also, like a few guys have mentioned, be sure to use a dropcloth, and wear gloves, 'cause the stuff doesn't come off easily.

 

The headliner as droppy just like anyother seconf gen truck thats why I took it out to fix it, and the rest of the interior is clean from what I can see anyways. Kindah scared to rip up the carpet and see what th floor panels are like.

I didn't know the title was salvage I asked the guy about three times before I bought the truck if it had a clean title and he said yeah. So when I went to get it, me being a dumb stupid 20 year old excited about getting another truck gave him the money he signed the title handed it to me and asked me to sign the title before I left so it was legally my truck.
I should of flipped the title over and looked at it to make sure, but didnt look at the title till I got home. And seeing as how he wrote me a recpiet saying sold as is there not much I could do about it. I think I got a decent deal on it anyways besides the salvage title. 1998 5.9 114K is what is says on the dash who knows if its right or not. lift 35's nice rims posi rear end for $3700 Hard to find a 4x4 for a price like that in decent conditon (or so I thought) around here. Theres no rust on the outside of truck. Also it was painted at one time cause my build sheet from dodge said it came in a 2 tone color

 

So I thght about this yesterday at work and if I pull my carpet out and find its all rusted under there how would it look if I did the entire floor in the POR-15? Could I leave it like that or would it look like ****?

 

Bedliner stuff would prolly be a better fit for the floor. Little more UV resistant. Granted, the POR15 is hard as a flippin' rock once it cures..... if you go that route, make sure to cover it with some flavor of UV protectant. (I think the company even makes a product just for that purpose.)
