Lifting my truck 5" next week
well i got a 96 dodge ram 1500 5.2l and im going to be puting in a bds 5" suspension lift and get some 35" mud terrains on my stock 16" rims, at a later date maybe in a month i will be doing a 3" body lift aswell, i want your guys ideas on this bad good things etc? its going to be the bds 5" lift
hmm, i really wanted to go with the stock rims, im 18 years old, so i dont got much $$$$ :P but i might be able to find some cheap if i was going to get rims i wanted american eagle racing rims :P there really nice, anyhow the lift im getting does a rear shackle flip so i think i will be leaving that stock block in there and getting 8" suspension in the back and have just 5" in the front and then the 3" body lift will give me a 8" front 11" back not sure how its going to look but who knows :P if it looks really ofset i will just get a 2" coil spacer or trade my springs in for 2500 springs should give me that extra lift
Personally I don't think that 8 inches and 35's will look good. I've got a 3in suspension and a 3in body lift on my 98 with 35's and i wish I had bought 37's it would look better. You'll be able to get 38's or maybe 39's with 8inches. But you definitely should get wider rims so it will be more stable, and so it won't look real tall and skinny.
Body lifts are a cheap way to get some more height, but they make alot of things more of a pain. I have one, and I lift it cause it was a cheap 3 inches but like I said it made alot of things harder.
I do agree though, 35's might be a bit to small with 8" of lift. I have 3" and I'm thinking about going with 35's. The narrowest 35's I have seen are 12.5 wide, which is probably the narrowest they make them. I'm kinda skeptical about putting a 12.5" wide tire on my 7" wide wheel [&:]
I'm still really torn between what tires I'm gonna get.
One more thing, you can find some really cheap steel wheels. Like $50 each. I know a kid with them, and believe it or not they look pretty cool and seem kinda tough for being only $50 each.

the one thing i like about dodges is how high the frame sits up inside the body.. if you glance under the truck you can barely see it compared to chevys and fords.. so a body lift wouldnt look half bad if you had the gap gaurds.. i have a 3 inch lift and plan on getting a 3 inch body lift soon.. or might as well just swap out the 3 inch for a 5.5 inch fabtech lift
but yea.. 36's atleast for a 6 inch lift.. 8 inch i'd go with a 37 or 38 and new wheels.. some nice shiny american racing wheels
