Steering Gear Box?

Steering box is actually easy. Remove the the two fluid lines, pull the pitman arm, and steering shaft, and then three bolts hold it to the frame. Getting the pitman arm off is going to be the hardest part, you can probably rent a puller from the local neighborhood big-chain parts store......

Need Help.............
I cannot get the pitman arm off the steering box. I used a medium sized gear puller but I break bolts in it before the pitman arm even thinks of breaking free. The tie rod end is loose from the drag link so that isnt causing any binding or interference.
So whats the trick.......?
I had to give it a rest for tonight after a couple hours and its soaking in liquid wrench for the night. I am wondering if I take off the top plate opposite the pitman arm end will that allow me to beat the shaft out from the bottom??

Thanks for the replies. Was just having a conversation a couple days ago about "always" getting new tools when undertaking a project. Told the better half that nah.... this will be a cheap fix and I have everything I need already, haha
Better go find me a pitman arm puller before she wakes up, lol.

Nope. Just the nut and washer. But.... consider where it hangs out..... and what it puts up with. The pitman arm gets a rather good grip on the shaft, and is rather reluctant to let go.... (which, considering what it does, is indeed a 'good thing'.)
If you have a couple big hammers, try the two hammer trick detailed above. Have a friend help you if ya have to. (you could also take the box off, with the pitman arm attached, so it's easier to work on too...)
