Default Oil light coming on.

Lately whenever I come off the highway my oil light has been flickering. I just had an oil change. My gauge in the dash reads correct. I was reading on here. To check the pressure. How exactly do I do that? Is it fairly easy? Tool Neded? I don't want to just start replacing parts.

Also when I hit the gas in neutral, My oil gauge will dip down before going up, Does that mean anything?

Did you check your oil level after the light came on to make sure you don't have a leak? Even if you don't have a leak, if you took it to a shop they may not have filled it up properly but that would be rare.

It actually started before the change. I was due anyway. So I figured it couldn't hurt. But No the level is fine. I noticed tonight on the highway when I let off the gas the gauge dipped down to right above 20 then came back up.

Should I start with the Sending unit sensor first?

Spend 20 bucks on a cheap mechanical gauge. Screw that feller in, in place of the sending unit. Drive your truck, and see what the REAL deal is. If your oil pressure is indeed dropping below 10PSI at idle, STOP DRIVING IT. Replace the oil pump with a high volume unit from your local neighborhood parts store.

By Mechanical....Do you mean an aftermarket gauge that would go under the dash or something?

Sorry I got it now. I'll get one tonight.

Exactly. I didn't do a permanent installation for testing purposes. Just ran the line out from under the hood, and set the gauge on the dash where I could see it.
