Now I have seen overloaded and the ill effects there unto. We took a 40' fithwheel on a 3000 mile trip to South Caralina's Myrtal Beach on the back of a old 1500 chevy, pulled the truck across the scales 16500 truck weight and 12500 trailer weight fully loaded minus 3/4 tank of gas. We found out the bump stops make for a lousy ride and the weak point was a rear u-joint, that exploded at 2 am. At 50 mph when one of those go it an't fun, when ours went it slammed the transfercase into 4h shortly after taking the engine to 7k+, when that happend the front wheels went crazy, a great deal of spinning and smoke with the added effect of, no steering.

Total casualties ripped both motor mounts free as well as trans mount, 1 blowen engine, exploded Tcase, a pretzel for a drive shaft, busted gas tank, broken rear yoke on axle, and a bent frame. The frame was bent when we where hit by the Lincoln Town Car after we finally got stopped. Took 4 days to get another truck... another 1500 chevy lol (...doh...). I was 15 so i didnt have any input

Bad thinks can happen from severely over loading a truck. The local rock quarry will not load a truck anymore. Why? Because a guy had them load his truck down (I believe it was a ram) and as he pulled off, he made it about a hundred feet the rear axle snapped in half. He sued and they had to pay for it to get replaced.

I weighed my truck the other day and she read 7,000 on the scales with gas full.

Yeah, my 3rd Gen pig is right at 7000# with the tool box full of crap.

Most I can recall ever having in the bed of my 2nd Gen was about 3200# of sand. It hit the bump stops on every minor bump and you could actually hear the tires rub on the underside of the bed on those bumps. I stuck my trailer hitch down into the foot of my clay driveway when I started to back it in.

I've had about 2600# of river rock in my 3rd Gen, sagged pretty bad. Did the exact same thing about two years ago, after I installed a set of air bags and the back end didn't budge with only 40% capacity of the bags.

I like air bags as opposed to "helper" type springs, as you don't bounce all over the place when the bed is empty.

BTW, getting caught over capacity in the truck bed (or pulling too heavy of a trailer for that matter) will not only get you about a hefty ticket in my county in south Georgia, but will have you sitting on the side of the road rectifying the situation before The Man will let you move again...

hey bro thanks i think the air bags will be a good idea. I dont ever plan on over 2500 lbs in my bed ever again 4950 was crazy but i didnt once hit the bump stops and i went over 2 rail road tracks...which surprised me ALOT... i am glad i didnt get caught would hate to dump all that money out on the side of the road.... but like i said i did back roads the whole way to avoid the chance

I liked the air bags installed on my last rig. On my Ram I have the factory overload springs and I'll tell ya that ride is freakin stiff! I have thought about removing them and going air bag instead, but I don't know if it would help any.

Anyway, yea my truck box is full of crap as well, forgot to mention.
