I never really asked about the rpm's, I just cared about pulling 6k lbs driving with or without OD

Yeah I was just trying to figure out how you were doing 4k since I just towed a airboat at about 60, and was only just over 2250 or so.

But I would definantely keep it with OD off and would try and stay around the speed limit, Would not go below speed limit if its 75 but would not run at that if the speed limit is only 65.

My truck has 175k and still runs stock tranny, never towed with overdrive on unless it was a little aluminum boat, which the truck doesnt even feel, and I dont use trailer brakes or weight distrubuting hitches and never had a problem

i would also leave OD off. the issue in the stock transmissions is poor oil flow and cooling of the the OD unit (thanks dodge). so the extra weight means extra heat, and potential for overheat.

have you got an external cooler on the truck. if not consider one. its likely to extend the transmission life by a lot. also regular fluid changes about every 25k or so.
