swapping nv3500 for 46re
I'm not gonna knock this thread one bit, BUT. If you have already 2k into this you could have had a patc viper transmission for a bit more and had a bullet proof transmission.
I wanted a manual tranny myself, but I wanted a dodge and I didn't have a choice in my area.
When my trans finally goes I am pretty sure the route I am going is PATC.

You can have your PCM flashed to work with the manual. B&G Performace could do it for you... Im not sure about the dealer though.
Shoulda went with a 4500 though
Im guessing he did it for the simple fact that he would rather have a manual trans than an auto... not because of the cost.

the nv3500 is a drop in the 4500 would be much more expensive and not as driveable. i am not hard on my truck at all I looked at the patc and other transmissions and 2000 was a starting point. besides i said well under 2K not 2k. if i did go with the auto i would still have a fuel robbing auto. manual is a control issue.
Again i have seen threads where others have done this swap could some of those guys help me with the questions i have?

I am actually in the process of doing this myself,I bought a nv5600 and transfer case, the whole swap kit off ebay minus the pcm,so far the most trouble I've had is the darn pedals were a bear to change, the pcm on a diesel only controls the guages, cruise control, the engine has it's own ecm,the speed sensor is in the rear diff,so the only thing to rewire is clutch neutral switch which is simply a ground, and reverse lights, and of course the hole in the floor thing. but so far I have only gotten to the pedals,I removed all automatic parts first, cooler, lines, transmission, transfer case etc....

So we should be seeing a write-up with lots of pics here soon then, eh
ok so i have to ask on the 4500 and 5400 guys. has anyone spiked fifth gear?? i had an old timer do it to my 3500 when i changed the gears. he says that the fifth gear will actually walk it self loose and make noises. lots of noises then you wil loose 5th totally.
as for the swap. you will need a manual drive shaft. once the rear end start to articulate you will pull the shaft out of the transfer case. all the Nv3500 trannys are the same lanth. the 45re is longer by 2.80 or so. the differance in the tail shaft of the transfer case between the ram and dakota may be what changed but idk i know that the np231 and the 231h or what ever it is. are different between the dakota and darango

I was into them for over 1K on my Dakota, they never could get it right. If I had to rely on them to tune my Dakota or my Ram, I'd sell em.
