Default 2001 Ram Infinity tweeter problem.

The drivers side tweeter in the pillar on my 2001 2500 ram isn't working. I did a search and found little info on these other than the tweeter is wired directly to the radio and not through the door speaker as on my 2002 Dakota. Aside from removing the grab handle and pillar from the passenger side, is there a quick way to test the speaker and connector with out damaging anything?

Jim

Nope. Gotta pull the speaker, and see if you are getting any signal to it.

I'm guessing a meter would be best. A test light would be the same as grounding the wire and that would probably short the circuit on the radio, right?

Not sure how the head unit would feel about that, so, yeah, a meter would definitely be better.

okay my bad, both tweeters in the pillars do not work. Searching threads here gives me conflicting info on how they're wired. Either directly to the stereo or through the the 6x9's in the door. I pulled the radio and checked the wiring there. No cuts or frays and everything looks fine, so I'm going to pull the door panels later and check the amps/filters on the door speakers. Pulling the panels is going to to be a pain with all the push pins holding them on.

Does anyone know for certain how the wiring for the tweeters run on 2001 trucks?

Grab the Factory service manual in the FAQ section here. That will have the wiring diagrams you are looking for.

Just did that. Sweet! thanks for the tip on where they were. Grabbed the parts manual too.

I had the same issue. Got a pair of universal car audio tweeters from Frys Electronics for $8. They didn't fit into the factory housing, but I was able to conceal them into the air vents. They sound amazing and your ear can't tell the few inches of location change.
