Oil Pressure at idle
Mine did the same exact bull $hit i put a high volume oil pump in and it didn't fix it, i did flushes i did all kinds of bull $hit and nothing would cure it it did the exact same thing yours is after a 6 months of driving it started backfiring through the intake around 65mph i said Screw it and jerked the motor and swapped in anouther one and now my pressure is perfect. i just finished putting the motor in the other day.
110k. im thinking its in the cluster, or something this is dumb...... ima get a mechanical gauge i guess and see what it does. Anyone know, can i unplug the original oil sending unit and not have the dash light come on?
well finally got it fixed, dumbass dash gauge. now when i start it when warm it read 45-50, and same while cruisin down the road, when i get on it it will rise to bout 70ish. all brand new parts paid off on gettin high numbers i guess. aha
ok well reviving this thread, it aint fixed
i am gettin the mechanical gauge soon. hopefully it reads good, whats the normal warm idle psi? i have found 10-15psi when warm idle, 40 when cruisin. whats the lowest that it should be when warm idle before its bad?

Minimum is 10 pounds at idle, but, if you are sitting at minimum..... chances are you are going to need a rebuild in the not so distant future anyway. After that, about 10 PSI per 1000 RPM is fairly standard. Up to about 50 or 60psi or so.
On mine, after initially installing my new pump, I had over 70 PSI at hot idle. Since the pump has had a chance to break in a bit, now it is 'only' around 60 at warm idle. Of course, my gauge in the dash says 40, or thereabouts, no matter what...... (even when the funny little no oil pressure lite was on before I changed the pump....)
Of course, I put in a high volume pump, for my high mileage motor..... that was the major reason I suggested it.

yea well i didnt wanna wait, but thanks for the input and tellin me what the bare minimum is i should have, i at least think i should have more than 10 with all new parts. thing runs fine and strong. just tired of chasin this prob and gettin it dinging at me, also when you disconnect the original sending unit the dash light comes on, but i was wonderign if i could ground it out to itself and make the dash light go off? and then ill just run the mechanical gauge...
