Default 01 Dodge Ram throttle body mod and plenum question

I have 2 Dodge Ram quad cab 4X4 sports both with 5.9L, auto. Id like to do the plenum fix and to mod the throttle body on each of them. My question is how thick does plenum "plate" have to be?
Second question is what/where can I find out how to do a larger throttle body. I have access to a machine shop so they can do whatever to the throttle body. I just need to know what needs to be done (in detail.....)
Any other mods/upgrades that I can do while the plenum and tb are getting done???

Thanks in advance

Most of the plenum plates I have seen are 3/8ths, or 1/4 inch aluminum.

For your throttle body, you can punch out the upper bores to 50mm without have to do anything else. Going larger will require larger butterflies as well. That gets it a bit more interesting.

There are DIY's available for the TB, do a search on "poor man's throttle body mod". (use google, the search engine here doesn't like search terms of less then four characters.)

Also check into the kegger mod. (DIY's availabe for that here too.)

i took a throttle body off the "kegger" today. The kegger doesnt have the rail across inside so its a newer one. I will cit the runners down at an angle as Ive seen on the forum. My father measure the tb openings on the bottom and they were at 50-51mm. Same as the holes in the kegger. I just got some aluminum today for the plenum so i think i have enough to do 3-4 of them.

HeyYou, you can search for those short terms on here as long as you put quotes around those short terms. I was getting rather frustrated with the search engine until, I forget which one, one of the moderators explained it to me. Try it. The archives are full of many years worth of posting goodness.

o1silverram, the openings are 50mm but inside it necks down to around 47mm near the butterflies. The poor mans mod is to remove the funneling to make the passage perfectly cylindrical.

As long as I have been on forums, you would think I would have known this......
