01 1500 Dashboard Swap
I know a lot has been posted about the infamous cracking dashboards on the Ram pick-ups. I’ve been kind of half-heartedly looking for a replacement from salvage yards for a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4. But I saw there’s a new replacement dashboard (rather than just a cover) that’s guaranteed not to crack because it’s made from newer/better materials. One place I’ve seen it is Geno’s Garage for $329 (part # DRD8-1) … I’ve seen may more re-posts of this same part (just search for “Dodge dashboard DRD8-1” and you’ll find them)… I’ve even seen it referenced in this forum.
Other than the fact it only comes in black (I need gray) I was thinking of giving it a go. BUT – I’ve never seen any feedback from anyone that actually installed it.
Has anyone actually bought this a put it in?
Did it fit well?
Thanks for any feedback.

^ i have no replacement experience and mine is cracked all to hell too.
but do NOT even bother looking in junk yards. you'll just get the same POS oem dash that you already have. if its not already cracked, then it will be by the time you get it installed.
the replacement dashes from dealer or other are made of better materials that will hold up. these will cost in the 300-400 range. some dealers are selling online for reasonable prices. steve white in NC. and formerly active member Parts/Service (Dave) in GA.
given the amount of work to install this damn thing, i wouldn't put in anything other than a brand new, top quality dash.

That's exactly why I'm trying to find out if anyone has any experience with this 'aftermarket' dash. I talked to my local body shop and they recommended a company that does airbag replacements to install the dash for me (rather than have me monkey around with it). They'd even come to my house and install it in my driveway. But I still haven't found anyone that has bought one of these to know whether it fits into a 2001 Ram 1500.
