Default Trailer Brakes/Towing

I checked my build sheet and I did not have the towing kit from the factory, but I have a class 4 hitch and a 7 pin wiring harness... but I bought a 16ft utility trailer to use for my mowing lawn business this summer, and it has trailer brakes.
I've never used them before, just curious what I would need to do to get them to work in terms of a controller and where I would wire it.

Buy a good quality brake controller, and it will come with instructions. Since you already have the seven pin connector, some of the wiring might already be there.

Hey bro I just went through this, my truck also did not come with a tow kit from the factory. First thing you want to do is look up under your dash and see if you have a blue plug in with four wires off of it, it will be right under the drivers side kind of by the parking brake. Although my truck did not have the factory tow package it still had the factory trailer brake wiring. There will be a tag off the wires that says "electric brake". If you have this its really easy look under your truck right behing the drivers side front wheel well and there will be a wire harness clip with a blue wire going into it on the "hood" side its on the top row 4th one in. this is as far as the wire goes you have to cut the wire and connect a piece of wire (minimum 14 ga) and run back to your trailer plug and connect it accordingly then get a brake controller (proportional type NOT timed IMO) and the dodge adapter and plug it into the factory plug under your dash and your done. If you DO NOT have the factory brake harness then you will have to splice in the wires.

Here is an awesome write up I found

Just replace the asterisks with dodge owner forums without the spaces, still dont understand why it does that when trying to link.

I also got a build sheet for my truck and indeed it did not come with factory tow package, I actually had to wire in a new plug today too since it had some flat four uhaul crap on it
