CEL truck spit a p0420 at me
Hey guys, I got the p0420 code yesterday took it to autozone and they gave me a list of what it could be
1 catalytic converter, (I think thats it. My cats gutted)
2 engine missfire
3 large vaccum leak
4 engine oil leaking into exhaust valve guides
5 piston rings
I hope its the converter that made the CEL come on but from your guys experience do you think thats what it is?
When I start the truck in the after it has set all night its runs a little ruff sound like it has a small cam in it, would that be from fuel overload and running rich? Thanks for the help guys!

Could need a tune up if your plenum hasn't been done yet.
Plugs could have gotten fouled causing a hard start. I could also be your cat doing the 420.
Also, pull the TB and check your IAC motor. Could be very dirty...I know my idle quality improved when I cleaned mine. And it never seems like a lot of carbon...til you remove it.
Happy hunting...lol

I recently done the plenum fix with hughes plate, put brand new plugs wires rotor cap, cleand throttle body. The truck runs fine after it warms up.
lol well thanks for the help
Update I pulled the truck in the garage and disconnected the battery for 30 mins, just hooked it back up and light went off and truck idled fine. ??????

Thats what controls EVERYTHING. I think that if you reset it and your problems go away, you might be having trouble with your PCM.....or it could be a bad ground.
Sorry, I'm thinking as I'm typing. lol

Passenger side firewall. Its the box with 3 wire bundles hooked into it.
And yes, they can be. They can also fail very quickly.
You must remember, it could very well NOT be the PCM. I'm just going through things in my head here.
lol
I would drive it like this for a little while, see what happens.
