Steel, aluminum, cast iron, plastic, glass, and rubber.

They're trucks, built to tow and haul things.

They have to have the strength to safely handle a thousand pounds in the bed over any reasonable terrain, or several thousand pounds trying to steer by pushing the trailer hitch this way and that, over any reasonable terrain. Things that a Prius can't do.

There's not really much you can do to appreciably decrease the weight, but you can chuck the bumpers for roll pans, remove any trailer hitch you might have, drive around like an idiot with no spare tire, leave the windshield washer bottle empty, take out the back seat (if you have one), and only put in just enough fuel to get to the gas station nearest your destination. Oh, and don't run around with big ole greasy fat chicks.

Get a custom fiberglass box, get fiberglass fenders, take the tail gate off and put a $20 net, modify door hinges and instal a clip into wires so doors can be removed, get some 14inch aluminum rims with light tires... or get a dakota?
