Code after Breather Filter Replacement...
Check and see if you knocked any hoses off of the purge solenoid on the drivers side rear of the engine. Oddly enough, its right above the crankcase intake for the PCV. (which should actually have a hose going to the air filter box.....)
The only item I can see that has a hose connecting to the air filter box is the crankcase breather filter. The PCV valve has a vac tube running into the intake.
I guess another really good question is whether or not the CHECK ENGINE will go away on its own if I find something loose, or if I will have to reset it...???

Code will go away on it's own after a while (I believe 50 start-ups) if the source of the problem is fixed. It's easier to disconnect the battery for a few to reset.
Look at the rad cross member for a detailed drawing of the EVAP system. Check all the hoses until you find your problem.
Could be that the purge canister itself went bad, an that it's coincidental that it appeared after you messed with the air box. I'd eliminate all of the free possibilities first though (check all of the hoses).

OK... now I found the purge selenoid. I'm sure I whacked it a few times trying to get that filter in. Everything appears to be in order with that part. I think I'll try pulling the battery tomorrow and see what happens.
