I dont have an obd2 scanner I just roll on up the road and get the auto store to giveit a once over then I go from there. I think the ones they use are around $75-$100 and if they can scan as many cars and trucks that come in with out busting then they have to be decent quality.

In all honesty, if you looking for a basic can tool just buy a superchips flashpaq and kill two birds with one stone. If you don't want a superchips, then find a cheapy to get the job done.

Stack "BIG25" coupon on top and have it shipped. call it a done deal.

I'm looking at this one. It comes with diagnostic software which should give the most common fixes for a code right?

Nope. Most of them will just tell you what the code is. They won't tell you how to fix it. That's where having a manual comes in handy.

If you just want to be able to read codes and data, and have a laptop..... get the free software, and buy a cable for 20 to 50 bucks.

I find the laptop to be an inconvenience personally, but if that is what you want then go for it. 10 times out of 10 even with my advanced code reader, I will still go to google and research the code itself before I do anything. Spend your money as you please
